Living in a Wildfire Risk Area, and Wildfire Mitigation Actions

The Truckee area wildfire season is typically late June through November, or after the region receives significant moisture. As a Boulders homeowner, resident, tenant and / or visitor, you have a vested interest in assisting the community with wildfire mitigation.

Firewise USA®

Guided by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) ↗ Firewise principles, The Boulders has been a Firewise USA® participating site in good standing since 2019.

The Boulders Firewise Committee members work with both Truckee Fire District ↗ and Cal Fire ↗ to establish immediate and long-term fire safe practices around the community, which in turn, helps us achieve the ongoing “in good standing” requirements. Maintaining these requirements is vital for the safety and survival of our community.

Note: some insurance companies recognize the importance of Firewise participation, and subsequently offer discounts on homeowners’ insurance policies. The Boulders’ Firewise certification is available for download from Association Docs & Info (password required).

Your Responsibility as a Boulders homeowner

First and foremost, review the resources listed on this page. Then take action.

  1. Boulders’ 2025-2027 Firewise Action Plan
  2. The Boulders’ evacuation zone is TRK-E326. Keep it posted on your refrigerator so family members or renters can easily see it.
  3. Post the Evacuation Route Map (updated from Town of Truckee, 2025)
    Familiarize yourself with the evacuation route on the enclosed map before an evacuation order is given.
  4. Sign up for Nevada County Alerts ↗️
    This replaces the former Code Red. Nevada County Alerts will send you updates when there is an emergency and is the main point of contact if there is a fire emergency. Share this information with family members and/or renters that use your unit so they can sign up. It is easy.
  5. Have a “go bag” ready. Detailed information is available from the Town of Truckee ↗️
  6. Look around the community, and if applicable, look under your deck – is there debris left over from construction, are there personal items (e.g. tires) being stored under your deck? Remove it all, and either take it to the dump. Store personal items in your condo or garage.
  7. Keep your patio and deck clear of flammable materials. It is best to have non wood furniture. Door mats should be made of non flammable material, not made of natural coco fibers. Keep your patio/deck clear of clutter when you are not using it. If you leave for an extended time period, move any flammable objects on your deck inside your home or garage. You should also consider doing this on RedFlag warning days.
  8. Going away from your unit for a period of time? Clear your deck and entry area of combustible items such as chair cushions, umbrellas, carpets, door mats, & decor.
